Frequently asked
The questions people ask before coming in
Gathered here so that you arrive at the first meeting with the real questions, rather than these.
Before we meet
- How are you paid?
- By fees, charged per engagement, and by nothing else. We take no commission or trail from any provider whose products we might recommend. The schedule is given to you at the first meeting, before any commitment.
- Is the first meeting chargeable?
- No. It lasts about an hour and is there to check that your situation fits what we do and that we are the right people. If we are not, we say so and point you elsewhere.
- How can I check you are properly authorised?
- We are authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority under firm reference number 512448. The FCA register is public and free: look us up. You should do the same for any adviser you consult.
- Do you manage my money for me?
- No. We hold no discretionary mandate and your assets stay where they are. We advise, you decide, you sign. That is also what lets you leave us from one day to the next.
- I already have an adviser. Is that a problem?
- Not at all, and it is common. We are often brought in for a second opinion on a specific transaction. We work alongside your solicitor, accountant and banker rather than in their place.
- At what level of wealth does this make sense?
- The question is not the amount but the event: a sale, a gift, a remarriage, a purchase. It is the transaction that justifies the advice, not the size of the estate. A review with nothing on the horizon rarely earns its keep.
- How long does an engagement take?
- A financial review is delivered within three weeks. Succession planning runs over five to fifteen years, with a written note each year. A business sale is worked on twelve to twenty-four months ahead.
